Waste Not Want Not: Chapter 02: The Problem
Chapter Abstract: This is clip 2 of 7 for this video. By way of example, Americans discard 1.6 billion pens, 2 billion razors, and 16 billion diapers each year. Americans generate more annual waste per capita than any other nation. Residential waste has traditionally been disposed of in permitted landfills. Local governments are realizing that we are running out of landfill space. Toxic releases from existing landfills to air and water complicate the issue of waste disposal. Society as a whole is growing intolerant of waste disposal sites. We are each responsible for these problems. Government, industry and the public must work together to find the solutions.
