Chapter Abstract: This is clip 22 of 26 for this video. Eastman Chemical is the world's largest producer of PET plastic used to make soft drink bottles. In 1987 a separate organization was founded to promote plastic recycling. From this, they developed an in plant recycling program. They developed a partnership with Waste Management, Inc. as an exclusive outlet for all Eastman, Tennessee office waste. In return, Waste Management, Inc. would build a recycling center they would also fulfill the needs of the community. It was mandated from upper management that they establish an in plant recycling program as well as working with customers to recycle their plastics. There was a genuine desire within the community to recycle. Eastman took a close look at their waste composition to determine what id of volume they were dealing with. They have also made efforts to buy products with a high recycled content.
