Everything But the Rattle - Best Management Practices for the Auto Recycling Industry: Chapter 02: Fluids

Chapter Abstract: This is clip 2 of 10 for this video. Properly managing fluids is a key compliance requirement for auto salvage yards. Fluids must be stored in appropriate containers until they are taken offsite for recycling or disposal. Working under roof and on concrete makes managing spills easier. The use of drain tables also helps this effort. Motor oil and transmission fluid can be recycled onsite by burning them in waste oil space heaters. There are also a number of companies that offer used oil hauling and processing services. Gasoline collection is easy and should be done from all salvaged vehicles. Several companies can take used antifreeze and reprocess it for use in auto repair shops. Windshield wiper fluid can be used, sold or given away.
