WRATT III Case Studies - Great Dane Chapter 04: Emissions
Chapter Abstract: This is clip 4 of 14 for this video. An in-house study was conducted to determine how the use of 111-trichloroethane could be eliminated. The paint systems was modified to include heaters which lowers paint viscosity. This resulted in the reduction of the use of 111-trichloroethane as a paint thinner. A biodegradable / water soluble degreasing agent replaced 111-trichloroethane in preparing the trailers for painting. The application of this degreasing agent was moved to different station on the assembly line to allow time for the new agent to dry before painting.
